Duckies!

Today Eliot and I headed out with our bikes at 7:30 am to the beach. We took the "mountain to sea" route that lead us through a channel. Along the way there was one part where the bike path ran right along the channel/water. Lo and behold, there were several families of ducks. A mother and her ducklings! They were so cute I wanted so badly to take a duckling home in my pocket, or better yet if i only had a basket on my bike I could put it in my basket! =) There were tiny fuzzy ducklings along with some older "teen" ducklings...all so very cute! I so badly wanted to feed the ducks the cereal I had brought with me for the road trip. In my defense, they were Quaker oatmeal squares. In my view, somewhat more healthier than other brands. Plus, all the ducklings started to swim/run towards us as we stood near the edge. I mean, i could almost reach out and pet one! and did i mention that they were soooo cute?! But Eliot turned to me and said, "No, that's not a good idea." I knew in my mind he was probably right, not good to feed them human food (with all the preservatives 'n stuff). also don't want to get them too dependent upon humans right? But they literally came running/swimming to us! Awwww...it took all my willpower to resist feeding them although i asked for permission more than once to feed them with a disapproving nod from Eliot! (what a meanie huh?!) In the end i chose not to feed them (boo boo). if only i had a camera i could've taken a picture! Oh well...but i do have to say that was the highlight of this particular biking excursion. Oh and did you know we also got to see what i'd like to call "The running of the ducklings." At one point all the ducks started running (since they couldn't fly) down the channel. i wasn't sure what triggered it, but it was sure interesting to watch...and to my knowledge no ducks were harmed in the run =b.
